Sports for Cerebral Palsy is a year round training program designed for athletes with physical disabilities to:

  •  develop sports skills

  •  improve physical and mental fitness as well as providing an atmosphere of individual and team goal setting.

  • enhance general physical fitness  through adaptive physical exercise

  • provide recreation with fun experience designed to improve the individual's self-esteem

  • provide team training with the opportunity to travel to local, state, regional, national and international meets can be realized.

 

CP Sports

The philosophy of this program emphasizes: "Sports by Ability, Not Disability". The program is based upon a philosophy that the act of competition is essential to the total development of any person and that involvement in individual and team events can teach a person humility and pride and instill a sense of self worth and respect for others. The program's purpose is to provide an opportunity for athletes:

  • To learn or improve on individual and team sports
  • To have fun and meet other athletes
  • To learn cooperation in the attainment of a common goal
  • To improve self-confidence

Basic sports skills and concepts will be taught both on an individual and team basis. Sports proposed will include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Wheelchair Team Handball
  • Ambulatory Soccer
  • Track and Field Events
  • Boccia
  • Cross Country
  • Bowling
  • Swimming and Cycling

The program is designed for those with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities who are not appropriate for Special Olympics.
